Lauderhill City Commission approves upgrades to 19th Street!

Standard

On June 11th, the Lauderhill City Commission approved accepting a grant and expenditures to make improvements along 19th Street.  The improvements will include lighting and other safety features.  Mayor Richard Kaplan has asked that the city’s designs specifically address the concerns of the students and the Live Well Lauderhill team will have the opportunity to review the designs.  The design will include Crime Prevention Through Environmental Designs concepts.  Learn more here about the benefits of CPTED concepts:

Students, as you begin to enjoy your summer vacation, please take pride in your great work this year.  In November 2011 you toured your community with leaders and created a list of community concerns.  That list of concerns became a PhotoVoice art project.  That project spurred community discussion which led to your presentation at the City Commission in February 2012.  Your list of concerns became a formal advocacy agenda which became a Community Action Plan.  In June 2012, the city has allocated resources to make the improvements that you have identified as key components to building a healthier community in Lauderhill.  The adult advisors of Live Well Lauderhill are privledged to work for you and can’t wait to see where you take us next year!
